How Does Your Garden Grow?

The Meditation Garden dates back to the founding of Poughkeepsie Farm Project. It is a special place for all who visit whether to relax or to explore the growing herbs. In the garden, everyone from experienced herbalists to novice gardeners come together to share wisdom, learn, build community, and tend to culinary and medicinal herbs. It is also an important stop on any tasting tour of Poughkeepsie Farm Project.

What you'll find

Each season, we grow a selection of culinary herbs for use by our CSA shareholders and education programs. In the Medicine Wheel, we grow herbs with medicinal uses.  You’ll also find elderberry and goji berry trees in our garden, as well as an arbor covered in grape and hardy kiwi vines. Our elderberry tree has served as home to a family of mocking birds over the years! Our culinary and medicinal herbs include:

  • Ground Cherries

  • Lemon Verbena

  • Winter Savory

Lend A Hand

We invite volunteers to join us in the Meditation Garden to share wisdom, learn, build community, and, of course, garden! Help us plant, water, and weed the culinary herbs in the front beds or the medicinal herbs in the medicine wheel, trim our elderberry tree, prune the grapes and kiwis that wind around the arbor, and more. Lend a hand in cultivating this peaceful space. Join us every Wednesday from 4:00 to 6:00pm from April through October.

Try our Salves and Lip Balms

Every season, we gather calendula blossoms whose oil we use to make salves and lip balms and comfrey leaves for salves. These products are available for purchase at PFP’s special events. We invite you to join us and take some of these goodies home:
