It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

You know the farm is in full swing when the first PYO goodies are on offer at Poughkeepsie Farm Project. Available only to shareholders, the Pick Your Own component of the share is a great way to spend time on the farm and feel connected to the crops. Here's some tips, tricks and etiquette when it comes to PYO at PFP:

Pick Your Own quantities are listed each week on the board situated right as you walk into the farm fields. These quantities indicate how much you can pick per week. For example, if the quantity is listed as a half pint of blueberries, that means between Monday and Saturday of that given week, you can pick one half pint of blueberries. This does not mean you can pick one half pint of blueberries every time you come to the farm between Monday and Saturday (if you do indeed come to the farm more than one time in a given week). Please respect these limits--it is only by setting these "per week limits" that we can ensure there is enough for everyone. We have over 500 CSA shareholders for the 2015 season--we are always working to make sure there is enough for everyone.
Pick Your Own produce locations will be marked on a map as you enter the fields and also will be designated by big yellow signs in the field.
Many PYO herbs are available in the Meditation Garden. Look for signage in the Garden to see what is ready to pick.
CSA shareholders may pick the week’s allowed limits of PYO items during distribution as well as during regular farm hours. This mean you can do your PYO during distribution hours (Tuesday from 3 to 6:30 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM to Noon), or during open farm hours (M-F 7:30 AM to 4 PM, Saturday 7 AM to 3:30 PM).
Please never harvest whole plants, especially with herbs. Pinch off what you need, and leave the plant to produce more herbs for everyone to enjoy.
We provide clippers for you to harvest certain items (flowers, okra, etc). Please be sure to leave these clippers where you found them (at the front of the bed) before you leave the farm. We have a limited number of clippers, and want to be sure we have them available for picking throughout the season.
