Literacy in the Garden

Boardman Road Branch Library

Help the Boardman Road Branch Library plant their 2017 garden! Garden educators from Poughkeepsie Farm Project will lead families in planting vegetables in the raised-bed garden.  Learn about plant and human health through planting activities and read alouds. Please dress for the mess and weather. Meet in the Lobby at 2:50 pm and head out to the garden at 3 pm. For families with children Pre-K and up. Registration required.

CA$H for Crops: A Workshop for Farmers and Market Gardeners

Please join Poughkeepsie Farm Project and the Hudson Valley Young Farmers Coalition to find out how USDA loans and grants can help you grow your business. Whether you have a large farm or a tiny market garden, USDA has resources to help you expand, become more efficient, or upgrade your systems. PFP is hosting Ian Marvey from the USDA to lead a free workshop on the various loans and grants available to farmers and market gardeners.

 

 

Summer Institute: Using Gardens to Teach

Poughkeepsie Farm Project's annual summer institute is designed to help educators integrate gardens into their teaching. We cover topics in literacy, social studies, science, and nutrition, as well as build knowledge about sustainable agriculture, food systems, social justice, and ecological gardening practices. Join us for three days of hands-on learning! This 21-hour program is CTLE approved.

City of Poughkeepsie Garden Bike Tour

July 8, 10:30am-12:30pm
Meet at the Walkway over the Hudson parking lot in Poughkeepsie

Join PFP and SPOKe Poughkeepsiefor a leisurely bicycle ride through Poughkeepsie. We will stop at community gardens around the city, see what's growing, and learn more about the sites from the people who grow there. Get a chance to learn and talk about new places and projects in Poughkeepsie. The ride will be slow and safe and approximately 9 miles long. We will begin with bicycle safety essentials: riders of all experience levels are welcome! Cyclists 10 years old and up are welcome. Youth must be supervised by a guardian for safety. 
 

 

Art on the Farm Opening Reception

Join us for the opening reception ofa juried four-month outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing Mid-Hudson Valley artists at Poughkeepsie Farm Project.See all 17 of the amazing sculptures, and meet the artists! FREE and open to everyone! From July 1-October 29, 2017, the sculptures will be available to view with a self-guided walking tour.

Junior chefs summer 2017

Tuesdays starting July 11th, 4:00-5:30pm (5 weeks)
Members: $85, Non-Members: $100
Ages 7-12, limit 12 participants

Do you have a budding young chef in the family?  Junior Chefs Cooking Club is for youth who want to explore the world of culinary arts!
Together with Chef Katie Key, Junior Chefs will be led through a 5 week program that will get them thinking like a chef each time they step into the kitchen! Pre-registration is required.

Swing Into Spring

Suit up and join us as we Swing into Spring! Don't miss The Big Band Sound and your chance to swing dance for a good cause. This dance is open to the public. We ask that you pay what you can with a suggestion donation of $5-$10. 

The dance is being held in the newly renovated Vassar Farm Barn. There will be a swing dance lesson for beginners, given by instructors from PoTown Swing, starting at 7 p.m. and the dance will be from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Open Farm & Spring plant sale

We invite our community to join us for two days of festivities! Join us on a tour of the farm, meet the staff and board of directors, learn about our programs and activities, take a spin on our bicycle-powered polenta grinder, explore our meditation and discovery gardens, and stop by the smoothie station. There will be fun activities for the whole family. We will be selling nearly 100 varieties of vegetables, flowers and herbs raised in our greenhouse, as well as garden seeds produced at PFP and beautiful PFP merchandise.

 

Soup A Bowl

Every Fall, PFP and friends celebrate food and art in Poughkeepsie at the Alumnae House at Vassar College.  Proceeds benefit the charitable and educational programs of the PFP.  Soups, pottery, raffle and silent auction, and live music from the Roundabout Ramblers and lots more. Join us for our end of the season potluck. Come see what we are about and meet people in the community. Don't forget to use your PFP produce to make your dish!
